China slammed the US for using its veto in the UN Security Council to shield Israel and demanded an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza.
According to foreign media reports, Beijing said the Council’s response to the crisis would have been far more effective if Washington had not exercised its veto multiple times. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi stressed that the international community must support Palestine’s full membership in the United Nations under the two-state solution. He reaffirmed that China remains committed to pushing for a ceasefire and an end to the war in Gaza, which has already created what he called an unprecedented humanitarian tragedy.
Wang Yi pointed out that the two-year-long conflict in Gaza has devastated civilian life and warned that Israeli actions, which violate international law, are threatening the two-state framework and destabilizing the wider Middle East. He said lasting peace cannot be achieved if Palestinians are denied their legitimate rights, including sovereignty over their own territory. The Chinese foreign minister outlined three essential steps to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. These include an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire in Gaza, recognition of Palestinian rule over their land, and strict adherence to the two-state solution.
Beijing’s criticism comes as global outrage grows over the humanitarian toll in Gaza. China has consistently backed diplomatic efforts for peace and has called on the world to pressure Israel to stop its military operations. By holding the US responsible for blocking Security Council resolutions, China has positioned itself as a firm supporter of Palestinian statehood and a stronger voice in Middle East peace efforts.
