Pakistan has officially launched its first artificial intelligence (AI) avatar, called Laila, as a step towards adoption of advanced technology in public life and the country’s national economy.
The launch reflects the government’s strong commitment to integrating artificial intelligence into public services, innovation, and national development. Officials explained that the initiative represents Pakistan’s ambition to build a competitive AI-driven economy. Federal Minister for IT and Telecom Shaza Fatima Khawaja said the Pakistan AI avatar is more than a symbolic step, calling it a practical move toward bringing advanced technology into the daily lives of citizens.
She added that AI will play a crucial role in improving education, enhancing citizen services, and expanding digital inclusion across the country. According to her, the launch aligns fully with the national AI roadmap. Under this strategy, Pakistan aims to train one million people in AI skills by 2030. The government also plans to support 1,000 AI startups, assist 400 university-led AI projects every year, and develop 50 sector-specific AI models tailored to local needs. The newly launched AI avatar can communicate with users, support educational content, and offer language assistance to bridge the digital divide.
Moreover, the government intends to deploy AI avatars across public digital platforms to make them more user-friendly and ensure faster responses to citizens’ queries. Industry experts have welcomed the initiative, describing it as a timely step that will boost innovation, strengthen the digital ecosystem, and prepare the workforce for the future. They say Pakistan’s decision to embrace artificial intelligence will accelerate technological progress and open new opportunities for economic growth.
