Murree police share 10-point travel guidelines for visitors

A 10-point traffic and travel advisory has been issued by Murree Police in view of expected heavy snowfall and possible blizzard conditions, urging tourists to avoid unnecessary travel.

District Police Officer Dr Muhammad Raza Tanveer Sipra said police teams are fully deployed to protect public safety and keep traffic moving smoothly during the expected spell of heavy rain and snowfall. Authorities urged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel to Murree during the bad weather period. Officials warned that road conditions could deteriorate quickly, increasing the risk of accidents, traffic jams, and vehicle breakdowns. As a result, travelers have been advised to postpone non-essential trips until weather conditions improve.

For those who must travel, police instructed motorists to fully prepare their vehicles for winter conditions. Drivers should install snow chains, keep fuel tanks full, and carry basic emergency supplies. In addition, police advised drivers to reduce speed, maintain safe distances, and avoid night travel due to poor visibility and slippery roads.

Furthermore, police warned against using vehicle heaters carelessly during long stoppages. Motorists have been asked to slightly open windows to prevent carbon monoxide buildup, which can become life-threatening in enclosed vehicles. This step is especially important during traffic blockages caused by snowfall.

In addition, authorities strictly banned parking on main roads and steep slopes, as improperly parked vehicles can block snow-clearing operations and worsen traffic congestion. Visitors have been directed to use only designated parking areas. Drivers were also told to use headlights in foggy conditions and limit the use of hazard lights to emergency situations only.

Moreover, tourists were urged to follow the instructions of traffic wardens and cooperate fully at police checkpoints. Officials also advised travelers to check the latest weather and road condition updates before starting their journey.
