Police authorities have clarified that bus terminals in the city have not been completely closed due to security concerns. Instead, action is being taken only against those terminals that fail to follow standard operating procedures.
Officials emphasized that the move aims to improve passenger safety rather than disrupt transport services. According to Islamabad Police, strict measures are being enforced against terminals that do not register passengers in the official police-provided software system. Authorities stated that proper passenger data entry is essential for security monitoring and crime prevention. Therefore, terminals ignoring this requirement are facing temporary closure.
In addition, police have directed all terminal operators to install walk-through gates and ensure a secure passage area of six to eight feet at entry and exit points. Terminals that have not yet implemented these safety arrangements are being sealed until they meet the required standards. However, officials clarified that once the walk-through gates and secure pathways are fully installed, the terminals will be reopened without delay.
Furthermore, police have instructed owners to activate metal detectors and body-search procedures for passengers. These steps are designed to strengthen security and prevent any potential threats. Authorities assured that bus terminal owners can resume operations quickly by complying with all SOPs. Officials stressed that the purpose of these measures is to ensure public safety and maintain order. They urged terminal operators to cooperate fully and complete the required installations as soon as possible.
