BEIJING – The Foreign Ministry of China is conducting a one-year trial for visa-free travel for citizens from multiple countries to attract tourists.
The countries offered the relaxation are France, Italy, Germany, Netherlands, Spain, and Malaysia. As per the latest guidelines confirmed officially, from December 2023 to the end of November 2024, holders of ordinary passports from the countries mentioned above can visit the country for business or travel for up to 15 days without a visa.
This initiative aims to facilitate business activities, enhance international relations, boost tourism and promote China’s high quality development and openness, and is being seen as an important step towards easing entry restrictions.
Notably, China had very strict rules for COVID-19, including limiting travel, many lockdowns, and lots of testing, measures dedsigned to stop the spread of virus; however, the tough rules also affected the economy.
China only stopped these strict measures in December 2022, showing a change in how they deal with the pandemic and a slow return to normal life.
China’s decision to explore visa-free travel aligns with its broader goals of becoming a global tourism destination and promoting international cooperation, implying that the country wants more tourists and to work better with other countries.
Every year, hundreds of thousands of people visit cities like Beijing and Shanghai to see famous places like the Great Wall and Zhangjiajie. China’s long history, advanced technology, and business opportunities make it a great place for both tourism and business.
