The Sindh High Court on Tuesday ordered an inquiry into the killing of an accused in an alleged fake police encounter and directed the Federal Investigation Agency to submit a report within 15 days.
A Sindh High Court bench took swift action today. It directed the FIA to investigate the killing of Sakhi ur Rehman in an alleged fake police encounter. The court wants a full report within 15 days. The case shocks many. Sakhi ur Rehman was arrested by the SIU from his house in Karachi’s North Nazimabad. They also stole Rs 2.7 million cash and a car.
Furthermore, the SHO of SIU also demanded Rs 3 million in ransom from Sakhi’s brother, Sajid, for his release. Sajid brought the money to the airport. But he was arrested on suspicion of drugs. Later, SIU police also seized Rs 1.29 million of Sajid’s bank deposits. They even took away three cars from the family’s car dealership.
After Sajid paid the ransom, police shot dead Sakhi ur Rehman in a fake encounter. The lawyer of the plaintiff explained these facts in court. He emphasised that police arrested Sajid on a drugs charge to conceal their crimes. The high court has taken a courageous step to expose the crime of kidnapping, extortion and murder.
Further, the decision raises concerns about police brutality. The public wants action on police brutality. The FIA investigation offers a chance for transparency. This will increase public trust in police if it’s followed by action. This case raises concerns about ransom scams. Familles are devastated by such betrayals. The court calls for swift action to avoid recurrence.
