Govt approves Rs9bn subsidy, free e-bikes for students

The government has launched the second phase of its popular subsidy scheme for electric bikes, rickshaws, and loaders.

This green initiative helps people switch to clean transport and save on fuel costs. Official documents reveal exciting updates for buyers and users. In the first phase, authorities set a target of 41000 vehicles. Over 269,000 people applied eagerly, but only 41000 lucky winners got selected through a fair lottery system. So far, 1334 electric bikes reached users, and subsidy money flows directly to their bank accounts.

Phase two brings bigger benefits. Buyers receive Rs 80,000 subsidy on each electric bike. The government plans to introduce 100000 more bikes within three months. Government employees in grade 16 or below qualify for special interest-free bikes or rickshaws. They pay just Rs10000 upfront, with the rest deducted easily from monthly salaries.

Companies now deliver vehicles straight to customers. The government pays subsidy amounts to manufacturers later, making the process smooth. A new first-come, first-served application system replaces lotteries. Provincial quotas ensure fair distribution across regions. In a special move, 600 top government college students will get free electric bikes as rewards.

This year alone, authorities aim to distribute 116000 electric bikes, 3170 rickshaws, and loaders. These numbers promise huge fuel savings and cleaner air for cities. The scheme transforms daily travel for students, workers, and families. Electric vehicles cut petrol expenses and reduce pollution. Easy payments make ownership possible for middle-income groups.

Government employees benefit most through salary deductions and zero interest. This green push builds momentum toward sustainable transport. More electric vehicles on roads mean less oil imports and lower carbon emissions. The program gains popularity fast, showing public support for eco-friendly choices and smart government initiatives.
