This is in connection with the murder of TikToker Sana Yousaf. Additional Sessions Judge Afzal Majuka announced the verdict on Tuesday. Along with the death sentence, the court also imposed a fine of Rs 2 million on Umar Hayat. In addition, the court sentenced him to 10 years in prison due to other laws. Authorities said the punishments relate to different charges linked to the case.
The trial examined the evidence closely. This included forensic reports, witness statements, and digital evidence. Thus, the accused was convicted of premeditated murder by the court. The prosecution said the crime shocked the public. They argued it should be taken seriously and that death is the right punishment.
In the meantime, the defence questioned some of the evidence and requested leniency. The court noted that, after reviewing the case record, there were no grounds to accept the requests. So, the last sentence expresses the court’s verdict of guilt and seriousness of the crime.
After the verdict, police officials stated that they will adhere to the law to implement it. The person found guilty will also be able to take his case to higher courts. If an appeal is made, the case will be heard by the higher judiciary on its merits.
Public reactions are positive. Many people want quick justice and better safety for internet creators. Civil society is concerned about improving protection and awareness for social media users. This is especially important for young creators.
