The Punjab government has banned burning and roasting sari pai for Eid-ul-Adha across the province.
It takes the power to prohibit such activities in public places under Section 144. Burning of sari pai creates a lot of smoke and a foul smell, officials say. Thus, it is harmful to the environment and to public health. The smoke can cause eye and breathing issues in particular. Consequently, the government has had to make moves to safeguard citizens’ health.
All deputy commissioners and assistant commissioners were ordered to implement the ban. Local government officials have the duty to enforce the law against those who break it. The notification asks citizens to throw away animal waste in the right spots. The objective of this step is to prevent streets and drains from getting dirty.
Moreover, the government will also hold special clean-up operations on Eid days. These groups will clear debris and improve sanitary conditions in the affected areas. Therefore, municipal services will strive to eliminate pollution and health risks.
Officials also asked people to cooperate and abide by the rules. They stated public awareness is the main key to a clean and safe Eid celebration. Proper disposal and no open burning will reduce the risks of smoke and disease.
