Domestic air travelers to pay extra charges in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD – In a recent development, the Civil Aviation Authority has officially rolled out a fee for individuals traveling on domestic flights.

Passengers flying within the country will now face an additional charge of Rs 100, effective January 15 applied at the time of ticket booking.

In adherence to the CAA (Civil Aviation Authority) directive, all airlines are now mandated to collect the specified amount from domestic passengers during the booking process.

A spokesperson for the CAA emphasized the importance of these charges in sustaining and enhancing airport facilities and services.

The generated revenue will be allocated towards the maintenance and improvement of domestic airports, aiming to ensure a seamless and secure travel experience.

The decision to explicitly label these fees as “airport charges” is intended to provide transparency and clarity on the purpose of collection.

Moreover, passengers are urged to stay informed about this change and cooperate during the ticketing and boarding processes.

Commenting on the imposition of the charges, the CAA spokesperson stated that this initiative aligns with our ongoing efforts to enhance the country’s aviation infrastructure, contributing to the modernization of airports, implementation of advanced security measures, and providing a more comfortable experience for passengers.

Pakistan’s focus on airport modernization is part of a larger strategy to improve services and enhance the overall travel experience for passengers.

The authorities are also planning a major upgrade in air travel within Pakistan as cutting-edge ‘e-gates’ at key airports are being installed. The key advantage of these ‘e-gates’ is their ability to provide travelers with a seamless alternative to the traditional long queues associated with immigration processes.
