During a meeting on Tuesday with a group of Chinese investors led by Mr. Wan Xiaowu, Chairman of the Belt and Road (B&R) Group, Chief Minister of Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah promised to encourage private Chinese investment in the city.
Ministers of P&D and Energy Nasir Shah, Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani, Chairman P&D Najam Shah, and Secretary to the CM Raheem Shaikh supported the CM.
The chief minister declared that the Sindh government would welcome direct investments from Chinese public and private companies, as well as partnerships between the two parties in the projects of their choosing.
Over a dozen leading Chinese companies expressed interest in investing in Karachi, according to the Chairman of B&R.
These companies were specifically interested in waste-to-energy, wastewater treatment, desalination water plants, electric bus manufacturing, kits for converting gasoline-powered motorcycles to electric power, and city sewerage system reconstruction.
The CM declared that all facilities required for the Chinese companies to establish their plants will be supplied by his government.
The CM and the Chairman of B&R Group decided to meet again with the Board of Investment and the Planning & Development department to choose the project and negotiate so that work could start.
