KARACHI – The State Bank of Pakistan has announced two holidays for schools across the country on the occasion of Ashura.
The central bank, in a statement said that banks will remain closed on Muharram 9 and 10 (July 16 and 17) in the country.
Earlier, the federal government on Tuesday announced a two-day holiday for 9 and 10 Muharram, the month which marks the beginning of the Islamic year.
“[…] the Prime Minister is pleased to declare 16th and 17th July, 2024 (Tuesday and Wednesday) as public holidays on the occasion of Ashura (9th & 10th Moharram 1446 AH),” a notification issued by the Cabinet Division stated.
Muslims across the world will observe the religious occasion with grief and sorrow.
