The CPPA sought a reduction of Rs1.02 per unit as the negative Fuel Cost Adjustment (FCA), the current negative FCA of Rs1.28 per unit, expiring in November, will lead to an effective increase of 26 paise per unit in December.
The CPPA reported that October’s power consumption was 7.87% higher than the same month last year, with the delayed onset of winter being a key factor.
Additionally, 71% of electricity supply in October came from domestic fuel sources, half of which had zero fuel cost.
Hydropower contributed 31% to the supply, followed by LNG, local coal, and nuclear energy.
If approved, the adjustment will not apply to domestic consumers using up to 300 units per month.
Nepra reviews such adjustments monthly, with variations passed directly to consumers under the existing tariff regime.
