Flour prices in Lahore have dropped after private companies cut their rates, giving some relief to households.
Market sources say the price of a 5‑kilogram bag has fallen by around Rs70 to Rs100, reflecting a noticeable decline in retail costs. In departmental stores, the same 5‑kg bag now sells for about Rs790, while smaller shops are offering it at roughly Rs830 per bag. This reduction comes as private mills lower their ex‑mill prices, helping consumers save on their monthly food bills.
However, the benefit from cheaper flour has been partly offset by rising prices of other kitchen essentials. Ghee and cooking oil have become more expensive in the local market, with first‑grade ghee selling at approximately Rs590 per kilogram and cooking oil at about Rs595 per kilogram.
Traders say fluctuating supply and input costs continue to push up prices of basic items, keeping overall household expenses under pressure. Many families welcome the fall in flour rates but stress that sustained stability in all essential goods is needed to truly ease the cost‑of‑living burden.
