The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) has announced revised prices for re-gasified liquefied natural gas (RLNG) that will be applicable in the current month, effective from April 1, 2025.
The new rates apply to both Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) and Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC), affecting their transmission and distribution charges. According to the notification, the transmission price for SNGPL has been increased from $12.0022 to $12.5895 per million British thermal units (mmBtu), showing a rise of $0.5873 or 4.89%. The distribution price has also gone up from $12.9499 to $13.4789 per mmBtu, an increase of $0.5290 or 4.08%.
For SSGC, the transmission price rose by 5.44%, from $10.6906 in March to $11.2718 in April. However, the distribution price for SSGC saw a slight decrease, going from $12.7255 to $12.5910 per mmBtu, a drop of $0.1345 or 1.06%.
Ogra explained that the main reason behind the overall price hike is the rise in the delivered ex-ship (DES) price in the international market, which has impacted the cost of imported RLNG.
The new rates will be reflected in consumer billing and are expected to have a direct impact on energy costs for both industrial and domestic users. Energy experts have noted that fluctuations in global fuel prices continue to influence local gas pricing, and future rates will depend on trends in the international LNG market.
