Pakistan’s Mega Motor teams up with BYD to sell new energy vehicles

Mega Motor Company (Private) Limited, a division of The Hub Power Company Limited (HUBCO), has announced a major collaboration with BYD Auto Industry Company Limited, the leading global producer of new energy vehicles (NEVs).

In a notice sent to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), HUBCO disclosed the development.

The notification stated, “Mega Motor Company (Private) Limited, an associated company of HUBCO, has entered into a master supply and manufacture agreement with BYD Auto Industry Company Limited to manufacture, market, distribute, and sell BYD brand passenger vehicles in Pakistan as well as technical license agreements for the licensed products.”

BYD’s cutting-edge technology and Mega Motor’s local know-how, according to the firm, would “catapult Pakistan’s automotive sector into the future offering customers variety and choice from the world’s leading automotive technology company “.

In March, BYD declared that it would be collaborating strategically with Mega Conglomerate (Private) Limited, a partner in Pakistan.

HUBCO declared in June that it is launching a new line of business in the electric vehicle (EV) industry with BYD Auto Industry firm Limited through its wholly-owned subsidiary, Hub Power Holdings, through its affiliated firm, Mega Motor Company (Private) Limited.

A new era of environmentally friendly transportation was promised by the Chinese electric vehicle behemoth when it finally made its formal debut in Pakistani markets in August.

After claiming the title of the world’s top NEV seller in both 2022 and 2023, BYD had an outstanding global performance leading up to this entry.

After producing its first million new energy cars in May 2021, the firm just celebrated producing its eighth millionth vehicle, a feat accomplished in just over three years.

Pakistan faces issues with air pollution and growing greenhouse gas emissions, just like many other developing nations.

Because BYD’s EVs provide a cleaner alternative to conventional petrol and diesel vehicles, experts predict that their debut will help address these challenges. But there are still problems with the absence of infrastructure for EVs.
