KARACHI – Petrol and diesel prices are expected to climb higher in Pakistan from October 16 in the wake of changes in international market amid unrest in Middle East.
Fuel rates are expected to surge, reflecting upward trend in global oil market. Details shared by officials said government may raise prices of key petroleum products starting October 16. Petrol could see an increase of around Rs5.50 per litre, while high-speed diesel (HSD) may rise by approximately Rs13 per litre.
Petrol Price in Pakistan
Ahead of fortnight review, international average price for petrol touched $79 per barrel, up from about $76, while diesel soared to $87.5 per barrel. Despite these hikes in global prices, the import premiums for both petrol and HSD have remained stable, with petrol at $8.7 and HSD at $5 per barrel.
In a similar development, the federal government jacked up profit margin for oil companies by Rs1.35, raising it to Rs9.22 per litre, while the margin for petrol dealers may increase by Rs1.40 to Rs10.04 per litre.
Last month, the government made fifth cut in petrol price by Rs2.07 per litre, reducing the price from Rs249.10 to Rs247.03 for a two-week period. As the new adjustments come into effect, consumers and businesses alike will be watching closely to assess the impact on the economy.
