The Pakistan Tax Bar Association (PTBA) has requested detailed updates from the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) regarding the conversion of non-filers into filers.
PTBA pointed out that by imposing higher tax deduction rates for non-filers, the FBR has unintentionally legitimised their status.
The association requested the FBR to disclose how many non-filers have been converted into filers through audits and other measures.
The PTBA also raised concerns about the two-year-old Point of Sale (POS) system, urging the FBR to publish data on the number of POS terminals installed and the tax revenue generated through the real-time invoice system.
Regarding tax fraud, PTBA asked the FBR to release information on tax evasion cases, FIRs filed, and the prosecution outcomes.
The association further highlighted the ongoing delays in issuing refunds and adjustments despite the creation of refund zones, calling for an automated process to prioritise refunds for salaried individuals.
The PTBA also requested updates on the use of technology to monitor withholding taxes, specifically through the Synchronized Withholding Administration and Payment System (SWAPS), to improve efficiency and transparency.
