KARACHI – Another relief on petrol and diesel prices are on the cards, as the government is likely to cut prices from the start of October 2024.
Sources familiar with development revealed that federal government is expected to slash petroleum prices during its upcoming review for October 2024. The announcement is expected on September 30, with the new rates set to take effect on October 1.
Sources indicate that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is likely to implement a reduction of Rs3 per litre for both petrol and diesel for the first half of October. If the proposed cuts are approved, the new prices on October 1 would be Rs246.10 for petrol and Rs246.69 for diesel. A final decision is expected from the government by the end of September 2024.
In the last fortnight review, PM Shehbaz approved significant price cuts for key petroleum products for the latter half of September.
Petrol prices were slashed by Rs10 per litre, while diesel prices fell by Rs13 for second half of September. Additionally, kerosene oil prices were reduced by Rs11.15 per litre, and light diesel oil saw a decrease of Rs12.12 per litre.
