Electricity consumers to get relief as prices are likely to go down further across in Pakistan.
The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has requested a reduction in electricity prices under the quarterly adjustment for the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2024-25. The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) will hold a hearing on this request today. If approved, electricity users across Pakistan, including those served by K-Electric, could receive a major relief of over Rs53 billion. The proposed cut is Rs1.75 per unit for the months of August, September, and October 2025.
Sources said that if NEPRA allows further adjustment for the months of September, October, and November, the total relief could increase to Rs2.10 per unit. This would lead to a noticeable drop in monthly electricity bills for millions of consumers. The requested adjustment will apply to all government-run distribution companies (DISCOs), including K-Electric, ensuring relief is extended nationwide.
NEPRA will announce its final decision after completing the hearing process. If the decision favors the proposal, the relief will be reflected in consumer bills over the coming three months. This expected reduction comes at a time when consumers are already struggling with rising living costs. Officials believe that this cut, if granted, will offer welcome support to households and businesses facing financial pressure.
The move is part of regular quarterly adjustments made by CPPA and approved by NEPRA, based on changes in fuel costs and power purchase prices. Electricity consumers now await NEPRA’s verdict, which could bring significant financial relief in the coming billing cycle.
