Star athlete Arshad Nadeem sets a new Olympic record and ended Pakistan’s 32-year medal drought at the Games by winning gold in the men’s javelin final in Paris.
Nadeem, after failing his first attempt, delivered stunning 92.97-meter throw on his second attempt, a mark that proved unbeatable for the rest of the competition.
Reigning champion Neeraj Chopra, who also had a foul throw on his first attempt, finished with the silver medal, achieving a throw of 89.45 meters on his second attempt. Grenada’s Anderson Peters won bronze with a throw of 88.54 meters, marking his first Olympic medal.
Nadeem’s achievement is Pakistan’s first individual gold medal, the country’s first track and field medal, and only the second time a South Asian athlete has reached the podium in track and field.
