PESHAWAR – Mobile phone service will remain suspended on Muharram 9 and 10 (July 16 and 17) in Peshawar to ensure security during Ashura processions.
The development was confirmed by Peshawar’s Capital City Police Officer Qasim Ali to local media, stating that the decision has been taken to avoid any untoward incident.
He said the mobile phone services will not be available to people during these two days. However, the federal authorities are yet to take a decision in this regard.
Processions and special gatherings are held across in Peshawar and other parts of the country to commemorate the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA).
Meanwhile, the federal government has announced public holidays on Muharram 9 and 19 (July 16 and 17) on the account of Ashura 2024. The government has issued a notification in this regard.
The first day of new Hijri year 1446 was observed on Monday, July 8 Monday.
