Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi accused the United Arab Emirates of backing actions against Iran during his address at the BRICS meeting. He said he avoided naming the UAE earlier out of solidarity but noted the UAE failed to condemn recent attacks on Iran. Araqchi urged the UAE to reassess its policy toward Tehran.
He framed the issue as part of a wider struggle against American pressure, saying it is time to consign US bullying to the dustbin of history. According to Araqchi, many nations have faced similar forms of oppression, so regional states should unite and move forward together against this shared challenge. He warned that waning empires may act desperately to delay their decline.
Araqchi also touched on a recent claim about past covert ties in the region. He referred to a statement that Israel’s prime minister allegedly visited the UAE secretly during the Iran–Iraq War and met the Emirati president. The UAE denied that visit, and the matter highlights lingering mistrust and opaque diplomacy in the region.
Observers say Araqchi’s remarks reflect rising tensions and shifting alliances across the Middle East. His call for unity at BRICS aims to strengthen political and diplomatic bonds among non-Western partners. By emphasising cooperation, Iran seeks wider backing against policies it views as hostile.
Analysts note potential consequences for Gulf diplomacy if accusations persist. The UAE could face pressure to clarify its stance to avoid damaging trade and security ties. At the same time, Iran’s message may rally sympathetic states within BRICS and beyond.
In short, Araqchi pressed for regional solidarity and a rethinking of policies he sees as aligned with American pressure. He called for collective resistance and deeper cooperation while alleging UAE complicity in anti-Iran actions—an accusation that may complicate already fragile regional relations.
