Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Asim Munir undertook an official visit to China, where he held a series of high-level meetings aimed at reinforcing the strategic partnership between Islamabad and Beijing, said Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) in a statement on Friday.
According to the ISPR, the visit focused on strengthening bilateral ties, regional security, and future cooperation under CPEC. The Army Chief met Chinese Vice President Han Zheng and Foreign Minister Wang Yi. Both sides discussed global developments, regional peace, and strategic cooperation. They expressed satisfaction with their growing ties and agreed to work together for long-term peace and shared prosperity.
Wang Yi praised Pakistan’s efforts in fighting terrorism and promised continued support. He said China values its friendship with Pakistan and hopes for stronger cooperation in all areas. He also stressed the need to protect Chinese citizens and projects in Pakistan. On the military side, Field Marshal Munir met General Zhang Youxia, Vice Chairman of China’s Central Military Commission, and other PLA officials. Discussions covered military training, defence upgrades, counterterrorism, and better coordination. Both sides stressed improving joint response to modern threats, including terrorism and hybrid warfare.
The Chinese military showed full trust in Pakistan’s defence forces and appreciated their role in maintaining peace in the region. Upon arrival at PLA Headquarters, the COAS received a guard of honour, symbolizing strong friendship. Field Marshal Munir thanked Chinese leaders for their support and said Pakistan will continue to strengthen military cooperation. This high-level visit highlights strong defence and diplomatic relations between the two countries and reflects their shared goals of peace and development in the region.
