DUBLIN – The authorities in Ireland have allowed visa-free entry to citizens from nine countries who hold diplomatic passports.
Diplomatic passport holders of Indonesia, Qatar, Kuwait, Montenegro, Moldova, Türkiye, Colombia, Peru, and Georgia do not need any visa to enter the country as part of the fresh relaxation granted.
Ireland’s Minister for Justice, Helen McEntee, stated that lifting the visa requirement for diplomatic passport holders and officials accompanying visiting Ministers will strengthen the close ties in the political, economic, and cultural spheres, and will continue to foster a close relationship with those countries.
Minister Helen McEntee announced alterations to the visa regulations, mentioning the removal of the visa requirement for select groups from Indonesia, Qatar, Kuwait, Montenegro, Moldova, Türkiye, Colombia, Peru, and Georgia. Additionally, the Minister disclosed that individuals holding official, service, or public affairs passports from these nine countries no longer need to obtain a visa when accompanying a Government Minister.
It has also been clarified that reciprocal arrangements apply to diplomats of Ireland who are traveling to these countries. Interestingly, besides the visa relaxation, Ireland has decided to impose the visa requirement for citizens of Dominica, Honduras, and Vanuatu.
Starting from March 7, 2024, citizens of Dominica, Honduras, and Vanuatu must obtain a visa prior to their entry into Ireland. Furthermore, individuals from these nations must also secure a transit visa if they intend to travel to another destination via Irish airports.
Minister McEntee remarked on the decision, explaining that the visa requirement was implemented as Ireland aimed to harmonize its visa policy with that of the UK and the Schengen Area.
Ireland, located in northwestern Europe, is renowned for its lush landscapes, rugged coastlines, and rich history. With a population of over 4.9 million, it offers attractions like the Cliffs of Moher, Guinness Storehouse, and historic sites such as the Rock of Cashel, attracting visitors with its scenic beauty and cultural heritage.
