Saudi Arabia implements ban on multiple Umrah during Ramadan

RIYADH – In a significant move, the authorities in Saudi Arabia have announced that the repetition of Umrah during Ramadan will not be permitted for pilgrims.

The Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah made this declaration to avoid congestion, provide equal opportunities for Umrah, and manage crowds effectively.

As the holy month of Ramadan commenced last week, the Grand Mosque witnessed a surge in Umrah pilgrims, prompting the ministry to clarify that no permits would be issued for multiple Umrah. Pilgrims are urged to perform only one lesser pilgrimage during this sacred month to maintain the sanctity of the occasion.

Moreover, Nusuk, a Saudi government platform managing Umrah procedures, has stated that attempts to obtain permits for a second Umrah will fail. This measure aims to ensure that all pilgrims have an opportunity to perform Umrah during Ramadan.

In anticipation of a large influx of worshippers, Saudi authorities have introduced various measures to facilitate smooth and comfortable rites. Designated areas around the Holy Kaaba and specific gates of the mosque have been allocated for Umrah pilgrims to prevent overcrowding and ensure a seamless experience.

As the country is taking significant steps towards enhancing the spiritual journey of Hajj and Umrah performers, the Saudi authorities have also introduced an AI guidance robot developed by the Presidency of Religious Affairs to assist Hajj and Umrah pilgrims.

This groundbreaking initiative not only saves pilgrims valuable time but also ensures round-the-clock support, irrespective of cultural or linguistic background. The Guidance Robot offers precise and accurate responses to inquiries regarding religious rituals in multiple languages (Arabic, English, French, and more), fostering direct communication between pilgrims and scholars.

By introducing the Guidance Robots and banning repetition in Umrah, Saudi Arabia is actively working to enhance the spiritual journey of Hajj and Umrah performers, enriching their pilgrimage experience.

Saudi Arabia, a nation in the Middle East, hosts millions of pilgrims annually for Umrah and Hajj, two significant Islamic pilgrimages. Umrah is a lesser pilgrimage, while Hajj is obligatory for Muslims. These rituals take place in the holy cities of Mecca and Medina.
