Pakistan and the United States have successfully concluded a significant trade agreement aimed at reducing tariffs, enhancing market access, and fostering bilateral economic cooperation, officials confirmed on Thursday.
According to the Ministry of Finance, the deal focuses on promoting bilateral trade, reducing tariffs, attracting investment, and working together in important sectors like energy, minerals, IT, and cryptocurrency. This development was shared after a high-level meeting between Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb and US Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick, along with US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer. Other officials including Pakistan’s Ambassador to the US Rizwan Saeed Sheikh and Secretary of Commerce Jawad Paul were also present.
The agreement aims to give both countries better access to each other’s markets. One key benefit for Pakistan is lower tariffs on its products in the US, which could boost exports. The deal is also expected to increase US investment in Pakistan’s infrastructure and development projects. President Donald Trump shared a message on social media confirming the trade agreement. He said that both countries will now work together in the energy sector, especially in oil-related projects. He also mentioned that the US is currently choosing a company to lead this energy partnership and hinted that in the future, Pakistan may even export oil to India.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar also welcomed the agreement. He said that this trade deal marks a new beginning for stronger economic ties between the two nations. Officials believe this agreement will support Pakistan’s goal to expand trade with the US and bring in more investment from American companies, especially at the state level.
