Who is Nimisha Priya?
Nimisha Priya is an Indian National from the state of Kerala. She did a Nursing program in India and moved to Yemen in 2011 and worked for several private hospitals. She had hopes of starting her own clinic. However, according to Yemeni laws, she couldn’t do that on her own and she needed to partner up with a Yemeni national. Nimisha partnered up with a Yemeni national named Mahdi and opened a clinic in Yemen.
However, the clinic didn’t go on for long as the two partners had differences in opinions. Afterwards, Nimisha started managing the clinic alone but Mahdi started threatening and troubling her. She had lodged several complaints according to sources. However, despite the complaints Mahdi took away her passport in hopes that she wouldn’t leave Yemen.

What did Nimisha Priya do?
Afterwards, she tried to take away her passport from the Yemeni national by injecting him with a sedative. However, by doing so she didn’t know he would die of an overdose. Mahdi passed away due to an overdose of the sedative and Nimisha alongside her companion, who is another Yemeni national named Hanan, tried to dispose of the body.
Both Nimisha and Hanan chopped the body of the deceased and disposed of the remains in a water tank. However, the news reached the authorities and Nimisha and Hanan were charged with murder. Hanan who aided and abetted was sentenced to life in prison while Nimisha was sentenced to the ultimate death penalty.
Nimisha’s mother had recently filed a writ in the High Court of India to travel to Yemen and settle the dispute with the victim’s family by paying them blood money. However, the court refused at first due to travel restrictions on Indians. Due to excessive media coverage, the court is now expected to give her the go ahead to travel to Yemen to save her daughter’s life.
