Starting January 1, 2024, Islamabad authorities will suspend vehicle registrations for owners who fail to pay their token tax dues.
Defaulters will face significant penalties including a 200% fine on the unpaid amount. To encourage compliance the department has provided a 20-day grace period for vehicle owners to settle their dues. Defaulters are strongly urged to make payments promptly to avoid further legal actions.
Deputy Commissioner Memon highlighted that strict measures will be taken against vehicle owners who remain non-compliant. This initiative is part of the government’s larger effort to combat tax evasion and enhance compliance across all sectors.
Furthermore, this crackdown aligns with the Federal Board of Revenue’s objective to collect Rs980 billion in taxes by December. The government has reaffirmed its commitment to targeting tax evaders particularly high-ranking individuals who fail to file returns. While Rs775 billion has been collected in the first four months of the fiscal year, intensified efforts are necessary to achieve the set target.
