Islamabad district administration has announced a local public holiday on Wednesday, August 13, to facilitate preparations for Marka-e-Haq and Independence Day celebrations in the federal capital.
The decision will give residents two consecutive holidays on August 13 and 14. According to the official notification, the holiday will apply within the Islamabad Capital Territory’s revenue limits but will not affect essential services such as the Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI), Capital Development Authority (CDA), and ICT Administration. All other public and private offices, schools, and institutions will remain closed.
A grand celebration ceremony is scheduled at the Sports Complex in Shakarparian from 5:00 PM on August 13 until 1:30 AM on August 14. The event will feature patriotic performances and activities to mark the occasion. Earlier, CDA Chairman Ali Randhawa announced that the capital will witness one of the most vibrant Independence Day celebrations, with public participation at its core. He said the Marka-e-Haq event will highlight the spirit of unity and patriotism.
In preparation, Islamabad has been decorated with national flags, illuminated government buildings, and colorful lighting displays. Major roads such as Constitution Avenue, Srinagar Highway, Club Road, and Jinnah Avenue are glowing with LED lights and digital screens showing patriotic themes. The administration has urged citizens to join the celebrations in a disciplined and respectful manner, making the event a memorable tribute to the country’s independence. The back-to-back holidays are expected to encourage higher public turnout for the festivities across the city.
