ISLAMABAD – In recent news, Islamabad High Court Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri presided over a case that challenged the reduction of naan and roti prices.
According to sources, The Naanbai Welfare Association stated that the reduced price of roti from Rs25 to Rs16 and naan from Rs30 to Rs20 is not justifiable.
In response to this, Justice Tariq issued an order to suspend the notification regarding the reduction in roti prices.
He stated that the notification is to stay suspended until the next hearing of this case which is scheduled for May 6.
Prior to this, the Islamabad administration had set the price of roti at Rs16 and naan at Rs20.

This was done in line with the Punjab government as they reduced the price of roti across Punjab recently.
During the IHC hearing, Barrister Umar Ejaz Gilani, stated that the decision was made without the consultation of the Naanbais and that the new prices are very low
Afterwards, the district administration representative said that the controller general of prices and suppliers was authorized to fix the rates of essential commodities, including naan and roti.
Due to this Barrister Umar Aijaz Gilani stated that the controller general did not have the power to do that as per Section 3 .
Umar Aijaz also highlighted the sky high costs of flour and rental properties in Islamabad and suspended the notification till the next hearing.
