DUBAI – In a significant development, the authorities in Dubai have introduced a ‘permit to practice’ initiative for medical professionals.
The initiative was announced by the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) on Wednesday during the Arab Health Exhibition 2024 and covers doctors, midwives, nurses, dentists, allied health professionals, and alternative medicine practitioners, opening up new avenues for qualified individuals to contribute to the healthcare department.
Dr. Marwan Al Mulla, CEO of the Health Regulation Sector at the Dubai Health Authority (DHA), emphasized that this initiative aims to attract a wealth of skilled medical personnel, solidifying Dubai’s standing as a top destination for highly qualified health professionals in various specialties, Gulf Today reported.
In addition, the practice permit, obtainable within a single day is valid for three months. During this period, permit holders can actively engage in healthcare settings, familiarize themselves with local legislation and standards governing their profession in the Emirate of Dubai, and progress towards acquiring a full professional license.
Dr. Al Mulla elaborated on the seamless process, indicating that practitioners can apply for a license through the electronic system ‘Sheryan’. This can be done via the account of the medical director of the licensed health facility, providing a convenient and efficient avenue for healthcare professionals to formalize their status within Dubai healthcare system.
Beyond the individual benefits, this initiative signifies the UAE’s commitment to fostering a dynamic and responsive healthcare sector. It accelerates the integration of qualified medical personnel into the workforce and is poised to attract diverse talent.
The authorities in the emirate are quickly transforming the visa regime and making it easier for foreigners to come and try their luck besides improving the status of UAE passport. As per the Henley Passport Index 2024, the UAE holds an impressive 11th position, underscoring the robust nature of its passport. With a staggering 183 visa-free destinations available to its citizens, the UAE passport not only signifies the country’s global influence but also opens up extensive opportunities for international travel, diplomacy, and economic collaborations.
