NAIROBI – Kenya has decided to postpone President William Ruto’s directive to implement visa-free entries for the global community on Tuesday.
Kenya’s Civil Aviation Authority (KCCA) recently clarified that foreigners still need to follow the regular visa application process despite an earlier directive from the president. The directive had suggested Kenya’s move to a visa-free system starting January 2024, but the Civil Aviation Authority mentioned that the development of an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) system is in progress.
According to a KCCA spokesperson, travelers from countries requiring visas should stick to the existing visa application procedures until the government officially announces a change in this regard.
Moreover, the exact date for implementing the new system has not been specified yet.
Additionally, the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCCA) assured that further information about when the new system will be put in place will be shared later on.
The decision to postpone reflects the government’s careful approach to ensure a smooth transition to the new entry framework, ultimately enhancing the efficiency and accessibility of Kenya’s International travel process.
ETA, or Electronic Travel Authorization, is a digital system that facilitates entry for foreign travelers. It replaces traditional visa processes and streamlining approvals.
Kenya is located in East Africa, renowned for its national parks and reserves, including the Maasai Mara, Amboseli National Park, and Tsavo National Park. The population of Kenya is estimated to be over 53 million people. The diverse cultures, languages, and traditions of various ethnic groups contribute to Kenya’s rich cultural tapestry.
