Nooh Dastgir Butt, the gold medalist from the Commonwealth, is scheduled to return to the Commonwealth scene, though in a different sport.
Participating in the present Commonwealth Powerlifting Championships in Sun City, South Africa, is the 26-year-old Gujranwala resident.
Hasnain Raza, Haider Ali, and Dr. Adnan, who are scheduled to compete in different master’s categories, are also expected to fight alongside Nooh Dastgir Butt.
After winning gold in the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, one would think Butt would have kept up his appropriate weightlifting routine, but the strongman’s life as an athlete has been unnecessarily difficult.
The Pakistan Weightlifting Federation (PWLF) fiercely objected to the suspension of the PWLF by the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) in August 2022 and the appointment of an interim board by the PSB.
PWLF leaders accused Nooh Dastgir Butt of supporting the other weightlifting organization during this internal dispute, so excluding him from competing. The powerlifter continues to vehemently refute the accusations.
Nooh Dastgir Butt continued with strongman events in spite of the handicap, and he won the gold medal in the Hercules Columns event at the Pahlavon Mahmud Strongman Games in Uzbekistan in 2024.
The sister three of Sybil, Veronika, and Twinkle Sohail have already won gold, silver, and bronze at the event; Butt will be hoping to add to Pakistan’s current medal total.
