School clerk loses Rs2.3m in student fees to gambling

A clerk at the Government Model Higher Secondary School in the Zhob region of Balochistan reportedly lost a significant amount of money from the test registration fees of ninth and tenth grade students through online gambling.

Wazir Khan, the principal of the school, attested that the clerk was in charge of keeping PKR 2.314 million, which was obtained from 878 ninth- and tenth-grade pupils as exam fees.

However, the clerk disclosed that he had lost the money when gambling online on the “1XBet” platform when he was required to deposit the fees.

The principal stated that pupils’ exam registrations may be affected if fees are not sent to the Balochistan Board by the deadline of October 30.

Shehzad Jamal, the school clerk, was arrested and charged by authorities once they learnt about the occurrence.

The incident has also sparked discussions about the importance of financial oversight within schools to prevent such occurrences in the future.
