ANKARA – Turkish authorities have decided to drop visa requirements for citizens from Canada and America, in a major relief to the citizens.
The Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism has made a significant announcement, declaring that the requirement for Americans and Canadians to apply for electronic visas has been lifted.
“This is a positive step towards further strengthening our relations with these key partner countries,” stated Culture and Tourism Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy.
Under the new directives, visitors from the United States, Canada, and Mexico are now part of a group of approximately 20 countries that are no longer required to obtain a visa for a visit to Turkey.
Notably, the visa fee for these visitors was previously set at $51.50.
Moreover, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and the United Arab Emirates already enjoye the privilege of entering Turkey without the need for a visa.
Furthermore, authorities in the United States have confirmed that visas are not necessary for visits to Turkey that are under 90 days, providing additional clarity on the travel requirements between the two countries.
The visa exemption is expected to have a significant impact on Turkey’s tourism sector, which has been hit hard by the pandemic and geopolitical issues.
In 2022 Turkey saw a massive decline in international tourist arrivals as compared to 2019, but things got somewhat better in 2023, according to the World Tourism Organization.
An electronic visa (E-visa) is a digital travel authorization that allows individuals to apply for entry online. It allows travelers to apply online, replacing traditional visa procedures and reducing processing times, enhancing accessibility for visitors to enter and explore the respective country.
