Dubai -The United Arab Emirates has launched a novel work permit exclusively tailored for the education sector and aims to help the students find the right mentor.
Termed as the “Private Teacher Work Permit,” this initiative is jointly introduced by the Ministry of Education (MoE) and the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE). It aims to regulate the provision of private lessons for students outside traditional educational institutions.
This newly introduced permit grants various specialized and qualified professionals in the community the authority to conduct private lessons, either individually or in groups. Eligibility extends to a diverse range of individuals, including certified teachers in public or private schools, government and private sector employees, unemployed individuals, high school students aged 15 to 18, as well as university students.
Dr. Muhammad bin Ibrahim Al Mualla, the Undersecretary for Academic Affairs at the Ministry of Education, highlighted that the primary objective of the Private Teacher Work Permit is to ensure stability within the educational framework. The permit aims to provide flexible options for students and parents in alignment with their needs and aspirations.
“The introduction of a permit for qualified individuals offering private lessons will mitigate the risks associated with illegal and unregulated practices in recruiting private teachers, which could adversely impact the overall learning process,” Dr. Al Mualla emphasized.
Moreover, Khalil Al Khoori, the Undersecretary for Human Resources Affairs at MoHRE, affirmed that this permit aligns with the Ministry’s commitment to meeting contemporary demands and addressing evolving specializations and professions.
“Our goal is to ensure these professions operate within a structured legal framework that ensures fairness, safeguards the rights of all parties involved, and enhances the ease of conducting business,” Al Khoori remarked.
Regarding the application process, eligible individuals can submit their requests through MoHRE’s smart application, website, and e-services system after which it would be processed.
Remarkably, the permit is issued free of charge for a duration of two years, enabling permit holders to offer private lessons and earn direct income, contingent upon their adherence to a ‘code of conduct’ document approved by the Ministry.
However, a stern warning has been issued against individuals providing private lessons without obtaining the necessary permit. Such individuals will face fines and penalties imposed by the authorities.
