The United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women has officially appointed actor and youth icon Hania Aamir as its National Goodwill Ambassador for Pakistan.
UN Women Pakistan has appointed popular actress Hania Amir as its new Goodwill Ambassador to promote women’s rights, equality, and empowerment across the country. The organization made the announcement on Instagram, appreciating Hania’s influence and her commitment to inspiring women and girls through her platform.
In her statement, Hania emphasized that empowering women and ensuring equal opportunities for them is her top priority. She added that every girl deserves the right to pursue her dreams and live a life of dignity and independence. She also becomes the third woman and fourth individual overall from South Asia to hold this position, joining Indian tennis star Sania Mirza and actor-filmmaker Farhan Akhtar on the list.
Globally, renowned Hollywood celebrities such as Emma Watson, Nicole Kidman, and Anne Hathaway have also served as UN Women Goodwill Ambassadors, promoting gender equality and social awareness through their work. Meanwhile, several Pakistani stars have represented other UN agencies as goodwill ambassadors. Actor Fawad Khan has worked with the UN Development Programme, while singer Shahzad Roy serves with the UN Office on Drugs and Crime. Similarly, Mahira Khan and Saba Qamar have been chosen as ambassadors for UNHCR and UNICEF, respectively.
Notably, Hania recently attended an award event in Houston, USA, where she faced some health issues but has now fully recovered. Her new role as a UN Women Goodwill Ambassador marks another milestone in her career, highlighting her growing impact beyond the entertainment industry.
