In a momentous achievement, 93 Pakistani students have been awarded the prestigious Chevening and Commonwealth scholarships.
These scholarships offer them the chance to pursue higher education at top universities in the United Kingdom.
The British High Commissioner, Jane Marriott, has encouraged more Pakistani students to apply for these opportunities.
Celebrating 65 years of Commonwealth scholarships
This year marks the 65th anniversary of the Commonwealth Scholarship program.
Forty-six Chevening and 47 Commonwealth scholarships have been awarded to Pakistanis. These long-standing programs have created a vibrant network of over 1,500 Commonwealth and nearly 2,000 Chevening alums in Pakistan.
The selected scholars come from diverse backgrounds and represent Pakistan’s rich cultural heritage. They hail from Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Notably, over 60% of this year’s Chevening scholars are women.
The British High Commission strongly encourages people from all backgrounds to apply for these scholarships.
Jane Marriott emphasized the potential of these scholars, stating, “The Chevening program helps develop a new generation of Pakistani leaders and change-makers.”
She expressed excitement about seeing how these scholars will use their UK experiences to enrich both nations.
For the first time, this year’s cohort includes scholarships for Heritage and Museum Studies and Football Science.
Prestigious institutions like the University of Essex and Swindon Town Football Club support these scholarships.
Applications for the 2025-26 Chevening and Commonwealth Scholarships are now open, offering more opportunities for aspiring Pakistani students.
