The Punjab government has decided to initiate the registration of all restaurants and wedding halls across the province, following approval from Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz during a high-level meeting.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz clearly stated that tax evasion under the cover of informality will no longer be tolerated. The Chief Minister rejected all proposals to introduce new taxes and emphasized that the government’s main goal is to widen the tax base instead of putting extra pressure on those already paying taxes. She questioned why a person earning Rs200000 must pay taxes, while someone earning millions avoids them — calling it unfair and unacceptable.
Maryam Nawaz directed the Punjab Revenue Authority, Mines and Minerals Department, and other relevant bodies to explore new sources of revenue and ensure strict implementation of tax rules. She highlighted that honest taxpayers should not suffer while tax evaders walk free. She made it clear that the government is not aiming to increase the burden on the public. Instead, the focus is on building a fair and transparent taxation system. Businesses, big or small, must register and comply, and there will be no exceptions moving forward.
Maryam Nawaz also stressed that her government is committed to economic reforms that support fairness and inclusivity. She promised that future steps would protect common citizens while making sure that every income group contributes its fair share.
