The list being shared on social media and WhatsApp, claiming that certain restaurants and cafes in Islamabad are serving donkey meat, is completely fake.
The Islamabad Food Authority (IFA) recovered over 50 donkeys and a large quantity of suspected meat during a raid in Tarnol area on Saturday, raising serious concerns about illegal meat supply in the capital. Since the raid, various claims have circulated on social media about where the meat might have been sold or served. However, on Monday, IFA Director Irfan Nawaz Memon clarified that no confirmed information has been found yet regarding the final destination of the meat.
He said that while there are unverified reports suggesting that the meat may have been supplied to some foreign nationals in Islamabad or sent to other cities, investigations are still ongoing. The IFA is working closely with the police to explore all angles of the case. Director Memon also shared that regular surprise inspections are carried out at food points across the city to ensure hygiene standards. He added that no similar complaints were reported over the past two years. Many of these checks are done without prior notice, including night visits.
The authority has urged citizens to stay alert and immediately report any suspicious activities related to meat sales or hygiene issues. Ensuring food safety remains a top priority, and more joint operations with law enforcement agencies are planned in the near future.
