ISLAMABAD: The federal government has announced another increase in the base electricity tariff for commercial consumers, including those consuming power for agriculture purposes.
According to details, the federal cabinet in its recent meeting gave its nod to a Rs8.04 (on average) increase in base tariff subsequently increasing the per unit rate for commercial consumers to Rs77.15.
Revised base electricity tariff for commercial consumers
| Consumer (Type) | Tariff Increase (PKR) |
| Agriculture | Rs6.62 |
| Bulk | Rs5.96 |
| General Services | Rs6.98 |
It is worth mentioning that the federal cabinet has retained the current electricity tariff for industrial consumers. A notification in this regard has been sent by the Power Division to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra).
The cabinet’s decision comes after the government acknowledged surge in overbilling complaints. A report said the executive is mulling doing away with the existing pro rata system, which is seen to push protected consumers into the next slab despite their actual consumption remaining within the category.
