A new batch of 100 advanced electric buses has been sent from China to Pakistan.
Punjab is set to welcome a fresh fleet of modern electric buses, which is currently on its way from Shanghai Sea Port and expected to arrive within the next few weeks. The initiative is part of the provincial government’s plan to provide affordable, eco-friendly, and comfortable transport to citizens. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced that by December, electric buses will be running in every district of Punjab. She highlighted that the fare for these buses will be just Rs20, making them easily accessible for the public while also offering a reliable commuting option.
The move marks another milestone in the government’s push toward sustainable and modern urban mobility. Earlier in February, Lahore received 11 electric buses from China under the first phase of the project. In total, 27 buses were introduced in the pilot phase, and the service was inaugurated by the Chief Minister on February 19. Each bus has a capacity of 60 passengers and is designed to provide a smooth, comfortable, and environment-friendly travel experience. A charging station for the buses has already been set up in Lahore’s Green Town, ensuring efficient operations. The buses were handed over to the Punjab Transport Department for regular service.
Furthermore, tenders have been issued for launching similar services in Faisalabad and Bahawalpur, which shows the government’s intent to expand the electric bus project across the province. With the arrival of the new fleet, Punjab will move closer to building a sustainable public transport network, aiming to cut pollution, ease travel for citizens, and promote modern mobility solutions in both urban and rural districts.
