Citizens to enjoy free Wi-Fi at 35 Islamabad locations

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has announced free internet access for residents at 35 key locations across Islamabad, including major markets, Metro and Electric Feeder Bus stations, and public parks.

The initiative aims to improve digital connectivity and provide citizens with convenient access to online services. The decision was made during a meeting chaired by CDA Chairman and Chief Commissioner Muhammad Ali Randhawa at CDA Headquarters. Senior officials from the National Telecommunication Corporation (NTC), including Managing Director Major General (R) Ali Farhan, as well as CDA members for Finance, Planning, and Engineering, participated in the discussion.

Officials said the CDA’s technical team will fully support NTC in implementing the project. NTC will operate and maintain the network, ensuring uninterrupted service while gradually transforming Islamabad into a free Wi-Fi metropolis. The CDA Chairman emphasized that an operational and marketing plan must be devised to make the system self-sustaining, with revenue generated used for system upgrades and maintenance. Authorities highlighted that the project will deliver consistent, high-quality internet to residents, supporting students, professionals, and visitors in accessing online resources efficiently. The initiative is part of Islamabad’s broader plan to enhance digital infrastructure and promote smart city services.

Officials also stated that the service will be regularly monitored to ensure smooth operation and high performance. They urged citizens to use the service responsibly and assured that steps will be taken to maintain network security. The CDA plans to expand the initiative gradually to additional areas, further increasing public access to free internet services across the capital. This step represents a major move toward modernizing Islamabad’s digital landscape, encouraging innovation, and providing citizens with reliable and accessible online connectivity.
