Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has reiterated his government’s determination to uplift the education system to international standards.
He said he respects his teachers as much as his parents and believes every teacher must earn this respect by providing quality education. He was speaking at a ceremony held at the CM House in Karachi, organized by the Sindh Education Department. The event marked the distribution of official teaching licenses to successful candidates.
The ceremony was attended by Education Minister Sardar Shah, Livestock Minister Mohammad Ali Malkani, Secretary of School Education Zahid Abbasi, education experts, lawmakers, diplomats, and civil society members including Shahzad Roy from Zindagi Trust. During the event, the chief minister awarded licenses to 646 successful candidates, including 297 Junior Elementary School Teachers (JEST) and 195 pre-service teachers. Out of 4,000 candidates who appeared for the test, only 16 percent passed. This shows the urgent need to raise the quality of teacher training and education in the province.
Murad Ali Shah said that his government is committed to selecting only qualified teachers through the Sindh Teacher Education Development Authority (STEDA). He also expressed concern about the large number of out-of-school children and emphasized the importance of both enrollment and proper learning in schools. He noted that the quality of education in primary schools has declined over the past 40–50 years due to weak recruitment practices.
Education Minister Sardar Shah also spoke at the event. He clarified that the teacher license system is not like a weapon permit but a serious step to ensure trained, responsible, and effective educators for future generations.
