The Punjab government has launched an emergency airlift drone service to support rescue and relief operations in flood-hit regions.
Punjab has introduced a specially designed airlift drone that can carry up to 200 kilograms, making it capable of lifting a stranded person during emergencies. Punjab Home Secretary Dr. Ahmed Javed Qazi ordered the drone to be sent to Multan to assist in the evacuation of people trapped in floodwater. Before deployment, the Civil Defence tested the drone with successful trial flights over the Ravi River in Lahore.
Dr. Qazi announced that the government will soon purchase 10 more drones, making Punjab the first province in Pakistan to launch such a service. He said the Home Department is upgrading Civil Defence with modern technology and international standard training to strengthen emergency response capacity. He explained that the drone service will allow rescue teams to reach areas that are too dangerous or inaccessible for traditional operations.
Highlighting the contribution of Civil Defence teams, he noted their crucial role in saving lives, protecting livestock and belongings, and ensuring food, medicine, and shelter during floods and other disasters. He also shared that more than 4,000 citizens have registered this week as Civil Defence volunteers through the government’s online portal, showing growing public participation in disaster management efforts.
Meanwhile, Commissioner Maryam Khan reported progress in de-watering operations at Mohlanwal Theme Park. She said 17 de-watering machines and five cranes are actively working, along with temporary drains and engines placed at key locations. The launch of this advanced drone system marks a significant step in modernizing Punjab’s disaster management and improving rescue operations during emergencies.
