The Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) have started using drones to monitor traffic and enforce laws on the city’s busiest roads.
The new system is being introduced first on Islamabad Expressway and Srinagar Highway, two of the city’s most important and crowded routes. Chief Traffic Officer Capt (retd) Syed Zeeshan Haider said the drones will watch traffic in real time and help take fast action against those breaking the rules. Anyone caught violating traffic laws through drone footage will be fined on the spot.
He said this modern step will bring discipline to the roads, reduce traffic violations, and help in managing traffic more efficiently. The main goal is to make roads safer and smoother for everyone. In the next phase, ITP plans to expand drone use to other busy areas of the city. These drones will also help the police identify traffic jams quickly. This way, quick response teams can be sent to those areas to control the situation and avoid long delays.
According to CTO Haider, this drone system is a part of a wider plan to modernize the city’s traffic control methods and ensure that road laws are followed strictly.
