Drones and cameras have been deployed in Rawalpindi to enforce traffic laws, with drones being initially used in crowded and high-traffic areas.
The initiative includes real-time drone surveillance to catch violators immediately. Underage driving, riding motorcycles without helmets, and one-way violations are being strictly addressed. The main goal of this effort is to protect lives rather than just issue fines. Traffic police are taking concrete steps to reduce accidents and ensure safer travel for all citizens. The e-challan system, launched on November 22, is now fully integrated with the Safe City Command and Control Centre. In the first four days, authorities issued around 600 electronic tickets for various traffic offenses.
More than 2,000 cameras have been installed at 359 locations across Rawalpindi. Additionally, 15 cameras monitor the city’s entry and exit points. This network helps authorities track traffic flow, assess warden performance, and oversee major roads. Initially, enforcement focuses on the most dangerous violations, including riding motorcycles without helmets, not wearing seatbelts, and using mobile phones while driving. Authorities emphasize that these measures are essential to reduce accidents and save lives.
Citizens are advised to follow traffic rules, use helmets and seatbelts, and avoid risky behavior on the roads. The authorities plan to expand surveillance and enforcement gradually to cover more areas and enhance overall traffic management. This initiative reflects a commitment to leveraging technology to improve public safety and create a safer environment for all road users in Rawalpindi.
