Ex IG Prisons taken into custody for allegedly facilitating Imran Khan

LAHORE: Security agencies on Friday arrested former Inspector General (IG) of Prisons Shahid Saleem Baig for allegedly facilitating Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan.

Sources claimed security forces had also launched an investigation against former deputy superintendent of Adiala Jail, Zafar, adding that an office superintendent Nazim Ali Shah from the office of DI Jail Rawalpindi was also interrogated.

Sources revealed that former deputy superintendent Zafar and jail assistant Nazim were among those apprehended for allegedly providing unauthorised privileges to the former prime minister during his incarceration. The detained former deputy superintendent reportedly resides near Adiala Jail.

Akram is alleged to have close ties with Imran Khan and is suspected of enabling illegal communications. The investigation is said to be making positive progress, with authorities uncovering the extent of the mobile phone access provided to Khan in violation of prison regulations.
