The Pakistan Army on Tuesday said it had formally indicted arraigned former spy chief Faiz Hameed on charges of political activism.
Hameed, who headed the powerful Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) from 2019 to 2022, is under military investigation for his alleged involvement in political activities.
The military also took three retired officers in connection with Faiz Hameed case into custody.
“On 12 August 2024, process of FGCM was initiated against Lt Gen Faiz Hamid (Retd) under provisions of Pakistan Army Act and in first place Lt Gen Faiz Hameed (Retd) has been formally arraigned on charges of engaging in political activities, violations of Official Secret Act detrimental to safety and interest of the state, misuse of authority & government resources and causing wrongful loss to a person (s),” the ISPR said in its Tuesday’s statement.
The statement added that Hameed was found guilty of instigating “agitation and unrest” in the lead-up to the May 9, 2023 riots, adding that the former spy chief is “being afforded with all legal rights as per the law.”
